2015 Multi-Genre Inquiry Project

From David Lindsay-Abaire's play, Good People, I chose the theme "Choice: Does it Really Matter?" This theme asks readers to think about the choices that they have, or do not have and the effects of those choices. This theme is vital to any student but particularly to high school students in low SES schools. Upon completion of the unit, I hope to influence students by giving them text that they can connect to and text that will encourage them to consider the choices they have and the consequences of each choice.

The multi genre project was made up of the following genres:

1. Research Paper: "Choice: Does it Really Matter?"
2. Motivational Poster: "Choice & Chance"
3. Postcard Conversation: "Choice: The Great Debate"
4. Infographic: "All About Choice"
5. Cartoon: "The Paradox of Choice"
6. Choicewear: "Why Making Choices Matter"
7. Lesson Plan: "Students Learn about Choice"

Below are some samples from the genres that I created.

Genre 2: The purpose of this genre is to have at least one piece that conveys emotions or imagery. I chose to do a motivational poster which was inspired by one of Margie's powerful monologues in Good People.
Genre 3: The purpose of this genre is to have at least one piece that conveys interactions between more than one character. I chose to make a series of postcards between two characters from the play.

Genre 6: The purpose of this genre is to have at least one piece that demonstrates strategic use of the information and ideas you have collected. For this genre I decided to create my own clothing line based on choice. Here is one example shirt.
Genre 2: The purpose of this genre is to have atleast one piece that portrays emotions or imagery. For this genre I decided to also create a tagxedo. This tagxedo was made based on a powerful monologue by the protagonist.
Genre 4: The purpose of this genre is to have at least one piece that visually reflects research information. I decided to make an infographic based on research relevant to the play such as abortion and unemployment rates.
